My time in Barcelone this last Sunday was almost at an end, but there was one more concert to see: Koko Jean & The Tonics featuring Dani Nel.lo. A terrific voice and now in combination with a great Rhythm&Blues saxophone player, that was going to have to bee good!

The second gig in Barcelona this November took us to Soda Acustic. After a terrific Cuban styled concert at the Harlem Jazz Club we were now off to see a full on Jazz concert by the Barcelona based Felix Rossy Quartet.

I’ve been with Monica in Barcelona during the first two weeks of Barcelona and although I’m still working on those photos, I did want to get a bit of a head start with the three fantastic concerts we saw there. The first is of a highly danceable concert by a group of elderly men: Son de la Rambla!

There is something in African music that just draws me to it. It’s highly rhythmic repetitive style just makes you wanna dance and I might not understand the vocals… if it sounds good, it sounds good, simple as that! So when I saw Tamikrest was going to play in Vera, it didn’t take long to make up my mind.

One day after the Sven Hammond Soul gig in Groningen and an afternoon clearing out the forest near Oudemolen as a team-outing from work I was tired, worn and also already back to the next gig. This time in Borger, back to Vanslag.

Sven Hammond Soul have recently released their fifth album Rapture and are touring with that now. They’ve been around for a good 10 years now and that shocked me a bit as it turned out I’ve not seen them in any of those years. High time to change that!

It’s been a while since I last shot stars, but I was out and saw the stars in the sky and looked for a bit. It’s amazing how many stars are out there and how much you can see on a clear night, even from your own back yard…
The wheels of my Bianchi are still out, but the weather was lovely last evening. And I remembered that it’s been a long, long while since I last just headed out for a walk, so that’s what I did. Grabbed the X-Pro2 and went for a near three hour walk…

‘Cause every time it rains,
You’re here in my head,
Like the sun coming out–
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen.
And I don’t know when,
But just saying it could even make it happen.
With a busy week I wasn’t able to do both Friday and Saturday of the Swingin’ Groningen festival, however I was by no way going to miss the whole festival and Saturday had some great names on the schedule. So after finishing my work on the Static Roots Festival, doing a ride on the Bianchi and fixing evening-dinner, I hopped in my car and drove to Groningen for more music!

On a sunny day in Amsterdam the canals are full of life with boats going up and down the canals all day long.

The first edition of Static Roots Festival was held as a wish to organize a festival by organizer Dietmar and turning 50 was a great moment to do just that. It was such a great festival that even before the festival was over the cry to repeat the festival was heard and so this year we got the second edition of Static Roots Festival. This time both days in Zentrum Altenberg.

I was at the Oosterpoort on Wednesday, and it’s been wel over a year since I was last there. Two concerts in March 2016 and before that I even have to go back all the way to 2014. So a visit to the Oosterpoort venue was well overdue and it couldn’t have been with a better band: Wovenhand!

It’s been over a month since the last concert. A vacation and not many interesting concerts kept me away from the venues. However I saw that Mister and Mississippi was going to play at Vera in Groningen and as it’s been even longer since I last was at Vera, this was a great opportunity to ‘get back in the game’. Since I saw them three times in 2013, they’ve been of my radar, so this was a good time to see what they’ve been up to.

Last week I received a message in Whatsapp “Hey Klass, you coming to Michael McDermott this Friday afternoon?”. Normally I work on Fridays, but this particular Friday I just happened to have the day of os yeah, sure I’ll come and see Michael McDermott.
