Eurosonic preview @ Vanslag

In a few days Eurosonic is going to start again in Groningen and with so many bands -from all over Europe- playing in Groningen, it’s easy to overlook some of them and for that reason alone it’s great that in the day’s before it starts  there are some preview shows. In Vanslag in Borger last night they showcased 7 acts from the province of Drenthe that will all play at Eurosonic-Noorderslag next week.

Joris Teepe presents NYCTG: Jack Walrath

Last Tuesday I visited the Oosterpoort venue for a jazz concert in the café-lounge area. In a program where an New York based jazz-player comes to Groningen, hence the name of the series: New York Comes To Groningen. Tonight that New Yorker is Jack Walrath.

Torgeir Waldemar in Vera

In the past few weeks I’ve been looking for some interesting concerts to end the year with. I ran into an announcement of a gig in Vera, listened to a soundclip and thought that this could be an interesting option. Turned out Torgeir Waldemar was one of the highlights of the year!

First snow in December 2017

We’ve had code orange and code red in the Netherlands all day, warnings to go home on time, to not go out on the road if it’s not really necessary and a record length in traffic-jams. All in all that was a bit much for what little snow we had in the North of the Netherlands, but it did make for a nice view: Snowy wintery landscapes!

Barcelona in November

The first two weeks of November I spent in Barcelona again. And we added a visit to Girona and Figueres. I mean… it’s cold and wet in the Netherlands, so a visit to Spain is a great idea!

Koko Jean & The Tonics ft. Dani Nel.lo at Jamboree

My time in Barcelone this last Sunday was almost at an end, but there was one more concert to see: Koko Jean & The Tonics featuring Dani Nel.lo. A terrific voice and now in combination with a great Rhythm&Blues saxophone player, that was going to have to bee good!

Son de la Rambla at Harlem Jazz Club

I’ve been with Monica in Barcelona during the first two weeks of Barcelona and although I’m still working on those photos, I did want to get a bit of a head start with the three fantastic concerts we saw there. The first is of a highly danceable concert by a group of elderly men: Son de la Rambla!

Tamikrest in Vera

There is something in African music that just draws me to it. It’s highly rhythmic repetitive style just makes you wanna dance and I might not understand the vocals… if it sounds good, it sounds good, simple as that! So when I saw Tamikrest was going to play in Vera, it didn’t take long to make up my mind.

Christopher Paul Stelling

One day after the Sven Hammond Soul gig in Groningen and an afternoon clearing out the forest near Oudemolen as a team-outing from work I was  tired, worn and also already back to the next gig. This time in Borger, back to Vanslag.

Sven Hammond Soul

Sven Hammond Soul have recently released their fifth album Rapture and are touring with that now. They’ve been around for a good 10 years now and that shocked me a bit as it turned out I’ve not seen them in any of those years. High time to change that!

Evening walk

The wheels of my Bianchi are still out, but the weather was lovely last evening. And I remembered that it’s been a long, long while since I last just headed out for a walk, so that’s what I did. Grabbed the X-Pro2 and went for a near three hour walk…
