In a few days Eurosonic is going to start again in Groningen and with so many bands -from all over Europe- playing in Groningen, it’s easy to overlook some of them and for that reason alone it’s great that in the day’s before it starts there are some preview shows. In Vanslag in Borger last night they showcased 7 acts from the province of Drenthe that will all play at Eurosonic-Noorderslag next week.
A very happy 2018 to you all! May it bring love, happiness, joy, fortune, great music and lots and lots of photos :)

Last Tuesday I visited the Oosterpoort venue for a jazz concert in the café-lounge area. In a program where an New York based jazz-player comes to Groningen, hence the name of the series: New York Comes To Groningen. Tonight that New Yorker is Jack Walrath.
In the past few weeks I’ve been looking for some interesting concerts to end the year with. I ran into an announcement of a gig in Vera, listened to a soundclip and thought that this could be an interesting option. Turned out Torgeir Waldemar was one of the highlights of the year!
We’ve had code orange and code red in the Netherlands all day, warnings to go home on time, to not go out on the road if it’s not really necessary and a record length in traffic-jams. All in all that was a bit much for what little snow we had in the North of the Netherlands, but it did make for a nice view: Snowy wintery landscapes!
My time in Barcelone this last Sunday was almost at an end, but there was one more concert to see: Koko Jean & The Tonics featuring Dani Nel.lo. A terrific voice and now in combination with a great Rhythm&Blues saxophone player, that was going to have to bee good!
I’ve been with Monica in Barcelona during the first two weeks of Barcelona and although I’m still working on those photos, I did want to get a bit of a head start with the three fantastic concerts we saw there. The first is of a highly danceable concert by a group of elderly men: Son de la Rambla!
There is something in African music that just draws me to it. It’s highly rhythmic repetitive style just makes you wanna dance and I might not understand the vocals… if it sounds good, it sounds good, simple as that! So when I saw Tamikrest was going to play in Vera, it didn’t take long to make up my mind.
It’s been a while since I last shot stars, but I was out and saw the stars in the sky and looked for a bit. It’s amazing how many stars are out there and how much you can see on a clear night, even from your own back yard…
‘Cause every time it rains,
You’re here in my head,
Like the sun coming out–
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen.
And I don’t know when,
But just saying it could even make it happen.
