This weekend the Dutch cyclocross championships were held in Surhuisterveen. It’s been a bit of a busy weekend for me so unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend both days and as it turned out nog even all the races on Sunday, so I was happy to at least be able to see the last race.
Bauke Mollema is a busy guy. Fresh out of the Tour the France he raced and won the Boxmeer criterium, raced in Surhuisterveen, won the Clasica San Sebastian in Spain and then raced in Rio at the Olympics. And then he came back the the Netherlands as soon as he could to race in the Gouden Pijl criterium yesterday.
The one thing in photography I really regret this year is not doing all the things I wanted to in sports. I started the year with a few Cyclocross races and had great plans and it mostly stayed there. There’s a set of Superbike motorsport photos somewhere waiting to be processed but in all I missed too much. Time to change that and the Superprestige in Gieten is a good moment to change it around.!
The cyclo-cross race in Surhuisterveen was a terrific discovery and the start of a new year in photography, however shortly before I had already seen that on January 12th the Dutch Championships cyclo-cross were to be held near Gasselte and I really wanted to visit that too, so last Sunday I packed the camerabag, added a long tele-lens to the set and was off to the Dutch Championships.
