Not so long ago I ran into the album ‘Astonishing Tales From Beyond The Brass Dimension’ by the Broken Brass Ensemble, a brass band (naturally) from the Netherlands. And then I saw they’d come to Simplon for a concert. A very nice coincidence and of course I went there too.
Noorderzon is well underway and actually already halfway. This is also my first day of 4 weeks of vacation. Had a few things to take care of, but I absolutely wanted to attend today’s edition of Noorderzon. When I arrived I was astonished to see the enormous line of people waiting to get into the Ophelia tent, where the performance “Post Presents Post / Who’s the best?” was about to start.
Last Saturday, halfway through editing my Welcome to the Village photos I needed a break from the computer and so I… went an saw another concert. Well, that’s not really how it was. I was hugely impressed by Town of Saints at Welcome to the Village and seeing they were performing at Roodehaan Live in Warfhuizen was a perfect opportunity to go and see them again! And as an added bonus there was Dina Popma.
Welcome to the Village is a ‘new generation’ festival organized in Leeuwarden. Not so much focussing on a huge main act, but on a good strong concept: a festival-area that was set-up like… well, like a village. A square where you can grab a bite to eat (local -organic, ecological- products) or get a massage and a little out of the way a tent where Groningen’s Vera was pressing shirts and bags in Welcome to the Village style. Around this and some other attractions were 5 stages. Two for the bigger acts and 3 for various other interesting acts. All acts fitting to some extent under an alternative/indie moniker. And if it got too hot you could always sit on a beach of take a dive in the lake. An easy going festival with an easy going hip young crownd: Welcome to the Village!
Hey all, as the concert season is on a summer break, festivals are popping up everywhere and it’s great to see so many new festivals with a fresh take on the concept. The next two days I’ll be at the Welcome to the Village festival near Leeuwarden and I’m very much looking forward to that.
