Sven Hammond Soul have recently released their fifth album Rapture and are touring with that now. They’ve been around for a good 10 years now and that shocked me a bit as it turned out I’ve not seen them in any of those years. High time to change that!
Last weekend all of Groningen was flooded with bands, reporters and audience from all over Europe for the festival that starts the new concert-year: Eurosonic/Noorderslag. I was not there! I started the 2017 concert-year a week later with The Mastersons and Anthony D’Amato in Vera.
Looking to add some variation to the concerts I visit I browsed the Vera agenda a little while ago and stumbled on a name that intrigued me. The added video featuring a photo of a girl on a skippybal behind a piano sounded good so I added An Pierlé to my agenda.
A double-concert tonight: After having visited Basia Bulat in the Grand Theatre in Groningen there was time for another great concert, even though it was totally different: Funk and Afrobeat by Vaudou Game and their special guest Roger Damawuzan.
Last Thursday I decided to test my newly repaired roadbike wheel and had to pick up the pace as the round got a bit bigger then I had planned. Did a good round, rushed to the shower and then quickly drove to Groningen for Danny Vera’s gig in -appropriately- Vera.
Last week on Thursday Mattanja Joy Bradley came to Groningen with a new band for a ‘ radio 3FM Serious Talent tour’ and I just had to check that out. Also The New Shining -another 3FM Serious Talent- was to play the second part of the gig.
Last week Dame Flux: the artist formerly known as Flux (and Irene Wiersma if you really get to know her) together with musical partner Corneel Canters presented her latest album and where else then Vera to have the album-release? The crowd was fittingly welcomed with champagne as the album is called… ‘ Champagne’.
Torre Florim and Roos Rebergen came to Groningen to present their second album to a wildly enthusiastic Vera crowd on Thursday evening.
