The church-turned-venue Vanslag once started out as well… a church. And last night we witnessed a bit of that ‘old magic’ as Ralph presented us with an evening packed with creativity, blues, rock, poetry… and a wedding!
Last night the Gregory Page concert in Vanslag/Borger was really impressive. A perfect location for a set of terrific musicians.
You don’t get to meet living legends every day. People that have such a rich history in music and poetry and are instantly recognizable by how they dress and talk. In the Netherlands just about everyone will know Jules Deelder. Poet, writer, performer, collector of a truly incredible vinyl jazz collection, promotor of detergents for black clothing and an important part of the Deeldeliers, a musical partnership with Bas -Dominee- van Lier. They came to Groningen last night.
I was asked to take photos at the presentation of Irene Wiersema’s collected poetry called ‘Wat U?’ in Vera on Sunday. And when a lady asks you to photograph such an event, you can’t refuse, now can you? ;-) So at the end of the afternoon I was present in Vera for my second poetry reading.
It’s late August and after a summer stop Noorderzon in Groningen marks the beginning of the second concert season. It’s a great festival with lots of art, theatre and of course: music. I wasn’t able to attend much this year, but I was not going to miss Irene Wiersma on Sunday August 21 and having Frank Turner on the same night was just bliss.
