The wheels of my Bianchi are still out, but the weather was lovely last evening. And I remembered that it’s been a long, long while since I last just headed out for a walk, so that’s what I did. Grabbed the X-Pro2 and went for a near three hour walk…

We had a great and sunny day today, so after work I made the most of what was left of the day for a short walk. In the last light of day, with lots of impressive plane trails in the sky it was a very nice bit of walking.

The evenings are getting a bit longer, so it’s a good time to start walking a bit more. Especially when it’s not raining and 9 degrees outside!

It’s full on winter in the Netherlands and we have had a few days of frost now. And yes: I do know that there are a lot of places in the world where will be far, far colder, but at a mere -6 degrees for a few days the Netherlands turn into a fairytale like scene with beautiful white trees…

With a fresh pack of snow and a clear sky it was a great afternoon to get outside and walk for an afternoon. And walk I did, over 20km in all.

As the year draws to an end I’ve been thinking over the many activities over the past year. New experiences, great moments, a few lesser moments and oh so many photos.

I had a lovely walk in Drenthe this afternoon. A bit over 20km in just over three and a half hours. Unfortunately it was mostly completely cloudy, but on the other hand it wasn’t cold nor did it rain. So all in all a very nice walk.

It’s been a month since I really did some photography (not really counting the few photos I took of the World Press Photo exposition). Coming back sick from vacation, dark nights and working in daytime and editing a huge amount of vacation-photos didn’t make me reach out to my camera immediately. However after a month I figured it was about time again. Also it was high time for a bit of hiking again!

There is a song by Manu Chao called ‘Me gustas tu‘ that -Monica once told me- is used by many people to learn words in Spanish. One of the lines in this song is ‘Me gusta Guatemala, me gustas tu’, and I’d get a change to experience that for myself this year. Monica visits her family every year and when deciding on our vacation plans for this year, we came to the conclusion that it would be a great idea to visit Guatemala together. I’d get to meet Monica’s family and friends in Guatemala and see the beauty of Monica’s country. However when it’s summer in Europe, Guatemala has it’s rain season. So we had to wait a while and on October 23 I finally started on an incredible journey…

I wanted to give the X-Pro2 a good test before I’m off to a well earned vacation. I had some problems copying data from my new SD card, so a few tests were in order. Luckily all is well in order.

This was most likely the last time this year I’d be able to go out on such a long ride after work: 84km in nearly 3 hours. However once the sun is gone the cold gets serious and with sweaty clothing that’s not much fun. Also I was racing against the sunset today. I learned my lesson last year and have a good set of lights with me, cycling in daytime is far far better.

It might seem a bit like an addiction, or that I’m a bit nuts… both are probably right. But hey… as long as we have good weather and there’s some light to go out cycling after work… why not? So after yesterday’s 120km ride, I took it a bit easy tonight and stayed just onder 60km. The views were gorgeous again.

I really ought to get back to shooting the X-Pro2 soon, it’s just that on sunny Sundays like yesterday the Bianchi is way more attractive then any camera could ever be. And the iPhone 6S might not be as good, it is light and as it’s used for GPS-tracking it’s also always with me. So a few more iPhone shots from the road then!
A couple more after the break:
