Preuvenement Assen

In a rush to get everything in order for the vacation, I failed to finish the review on Preuvenement, the cultural season-start of the autumn/winter time in Assen. On two outstandingly bright and sunny days we saw a mixture of music and lots and lots of culinary treats in the Gouverneurstuin in Assen.

Static Roots Festival 2019

This year halfway July was the fourth edition of the fantastic Static Roots Festival in Zentrum Altenberg in Oberhausen. A young festival that is growing and improving every year and as a result of that they SOLD OUT this year, a fantastic achievement and I’m really proud to have been a part of this great festival from the very beginning!

Joris Teepe presents New York comes to Groningen with Ben van Gelder

Last week I visited what was probably the last gig of this year, but also finally the first one in the Netherlands together with Monica. And as we both like jazz, visiting Joris Teepe’s series of jazz concerts was a good concert to start off with.

Black Bottle Riot in Poortershoes

I do love new musical initiatives. A few years ago the church in Borger was transformed into a concert-stage which has earned it’s place in many a bands agenda, a few years before that some friends organized houseconcerts in Groningen, which eventually grew to concerts in the synagogue and a four night programming at Groningen’s Noorderzon festival, I’ve seen the birth of the German Static Roots Festival and now a few friends and colleagues of mine have decided to organise several concerts in the community house Poortershoes in Groningen starting with Black Bottle Riot. To kick things off at full steam!

Drentsch Peil in Vanslag

In the third weekend of September Drentsch Peil -a showcase for new bands from the province of Drenthe- came to Borger to play at Vanslag. A perfect opportunity to see what’s up and coming in my province and to see the good people of Vanslag again at the beginning of the new season.

Guy One in Vera

There’s a thing about African music that just makes my heart beat a bit faster and happier. Luckily I’m not the only one and so we are getting more and more funky Afrobeat of African bluesy bands playing in Europe. It doesn’t attract the amounts of crowd like the big western rockbands do, but there’s a good bunch of music lovers that will turn up for these concerts! Last Wednesday Guy One from Ghana played at Vera.

Broken Brass Ensemble and special guests in Simplon

Not so long ago I ran into the album ‘Astonishing Tales From Beyond The Brass Dimension’ by the Broken Brass Ensemble, a brass band (naturally) from the Netherlands. And then I saw they’d come to Simplon for a concert. A very nice coincidence and of course I went there too.
