Ralph de Jongh at Vanslag with guests

Of all the musicians I’ve seen over the years I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw Ralph de Jong the most. However every concert of Ralph is an experience in it’s own and the energy he brings either on his own or with band makes every concert something to experience. It’s going to be hard to top his previous gig in Borger where he actually got married, but that doesn’t mean the concert should stop and so last Saturday Ralph was back in Vanslag and brought both a band and some guests with him.

Bluesroute Assen 2014

The last weekend of January traditionally means the cafe’s, pubs and bars in Assen clear out corners, set a little stage and welcome the blues. It’s cold, wet and the best of times to seek refuge in bars and blues!

Bevrijdingsfestival Groningen

On May 5th we celebrate freedom in the Netherlands, it was the day the Second World War ended for the Netherlands in 1945. There are festivals all over the country with a bunch of mayor bands and a lot of local bands. This year was my first visit to the festival in Groningen.

Asser Bluesdagen

The last weekend of January the various pubs and cafes in Assen join together to organize the bluesfestival called the Asser Bluesdagen. There is a kick-off on Friday afternoon and an Afterblues on Sunday, but the main part of the festival is on Saturday.

Rhythm & Blues Night 2012 1/4

I’ve been looking forward to this edition of the R&B Night for a long long time. A bunch of fantastic names got out pretty early and the time table showed that the names were spread very nicely so there would be enough time to see just about everything I wanted and it’s a great place to see and catch up with lots of musical friends. The evening started with a few great names so I dived right in.
