Chatham County Line in Vanslag

On Thursday February 9th the men of Chatham County Line came to Borger for an evening of true Bluegrass music. As it happens I’ve seen them before, a long long time ago. It was on the Take Root festival back in 2005. A time when I was just switching from analog photography to digital and I’m happy to see the guys of Chatham County Line have NOT done the same and are still playing true blue ‘analog’.

Oh Susanna in Vanderveen on RSD15

While I was enjoying the Vanessa Peters concert in the Groninger Museum on Friday evening, the Vanslag venue in Borger had Oh Susanna on stage. Oh well, you can’t be everywhere all the time and I was in luck as last Saturday it was international Record Store Day and Oh Susanna would play a set in my local record store, so I got to see them after all!

Kat Men and The Sour Mash Trio in The Cluny

Having only just arrived in England, the best way to get acclimatized to the country is of course to start and see a band. So on the first evening in Engeland my lovely hosts took me to The Cluny in Newcastle Upon Tyne to see the Kat Men, a rockabilly band with members of Imelda May’s band and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats.

Take Root 15th edition 1/2

Last Saturday was the Saturday of September: the day the Take Root festival in the Oosterpoort venue in Groningen had it’s 15th edition. A bunch of names I was quite keen on seeing, a few names that I already knew and one name that would blow them all away (but more on that later).

Robert Ellis, Diamond Rugs & Alabama Shakes at Summerstage

How lucky was I? Just booked my vacation to New York and checking out what music there would be only to find out that the Alabama Shakes would be playing at Summerstage in Central Park. And my hotel was just about located at Central Park. So there was no doubt in my mind I’d go and see them. Even packed my 70-200mm lens just for that occasion. Now if they’ll only let me bring it to the festival…

Ribs&Blues in Raalte

In the Pentecost weekend (or ‘Pinksterweekend’ as it’s known in Dutch) is very popular in the Netherlands for it’s many festivals. Best know will the the Pinkpop festival, but there are many more. Usually you’ll find me in Raalte on at least one of the days for the annual Ribs&Blues festival. A brilliant festival mixing the outdoor activities associated with the warm weather (BBQ anyone?) with loads of music of the blues variation.

Rhythm & Blues Night 2012 4/4

It’s past midnight, the hours are starting to count (what idiot decides to take 2 camera’s and 7 lenses along anyway? Oh yeah… me) but two blokes from my hometown are also playing on the festival and I really heed to see them too.

Elvis Costello and Larkin Poe in De Oosterpoort

A few months ago I read the announcement that Elvis Costello was going to come to Groningen! That was something to look forward to. The man’s musical career is as long as I am old and he still releases great albums. The gig in De Oosterpoort (on November 8th) would be a solo-performance, to be opened by Larkin Poe
