In the Netherlands concerts are usually held inside, but every once in a while -when the weather is good- you can find those magical open air places with just the perfect music for the location. On the first of June -when the weather was exceptionally well- the good folks of Roots on the Road and Coco Maria held a concert outside. With a setting sun, great music and a beautiful location the scene for a super concert was set!
Visited De Spieghel in Groningen last night. They have some terrific concerts there every now and then and when I say that Otis Gibbs was going to perform there, that seemed a great reason to visit the location again.
It’s taken well over a year but the moment has finally arrived! I have finished the book that takes a look at my first ten years in photography: Concert Photography 2001 / 2011.
April 14 2001 marked the day that a new career started, it was my first successful shoot at a concert (Dilana Smith in a café in Balkbrug). After four completely disastrous shoots in a short period before, I swapped a fully manual Olypmus for a brand-spanking new Canon EOS 300 with a 28-200 Tamron lens (with autofocus) and took my first successful photos that evening. I don’t think they’d make the final selection these days, but back then I was hugely impressed.
