To start of the year well I had my first ride on the Bianchi on January first. Here’s to a new year with (hopefully) many more rides and lots of photos of the rounds, wherever I make them :)
It was a mere 63km with a bit of rain, a tiny amount of sun and loads of glass on the cycling paths from smashed (beer)bottles. A mere miracle I made it home without any flats along the way. My personal condition at the moment is nothing to be proud about, but I’ll get to work on that now the holidays are over!
This is the first of two belated post of my travels to Barcelona this year. In all the traveling and other things I forgot to post these, even though the travels were really good. In July I traveled to Barcelona not with just my regular additional luggage, but with an extra big case as well for a really interesting trip.
Back in March I responded to a tweet to post a photo of yourself in shorts. We had some great sunny days in March and I responded to the tweet with a photo (as you do ;) ). I hadn’t really thought about if afterwards until suddenly in April I got a message asking if I’d like to join the Team Roompot crew for a day as VIP during the Belgium Tour. Had to think about it for a few seconds (it’s a bit of a drive from the North of the Netherlands) but it’s a superb opportunity and Belgium is a different setting. That makes it really interesting too!
I’ve got my set complete! New Michelin tires on the bike, a new shirt, I upgraded my helmet to the Giro Synthe (not the MIPS edition), got some new sunglasses and new shoes: the NorthWave Sonic 2 Plus. With the Garmin Edge 820 keeping score and track, I’m looking forward to a very interesting new season!
And of course on the back of my shirt my avatar: the bearded espresso sipping hipster ;)
As for the photos… I’m a bit bummed that I shot them in 1/15th, but running to and fro on cycling shoes, grabbing and parking the bike and keeping in time with shutter-release I forgot to reset them to 1/250th in the end :( Better luck next time.
This was most likely the last time this year I’d be able to go out on such a long ride after work: 84km in nearly 3 hours. However once the sun is gone the cold gets serious and with sweaty clothing that’s not much fun. Also I was racing against the sunset today. I learned my lesson last year and have a good set of lights with me, cycling in daytime is far far better.
It might seem a bit like an addiction, or that I’m a bit nuts… both are probably right. But hey… as long as we have good weather and there’s some light to go out cycling after work… why not? So after yesterday’s 120km ride, I took it a bit easy tonight and stayed just onder 60km. The views were gorgeous again.
I really ought to get back to shooting the X-Pro2 soon, it’s just that on sunny Sundays like yesterday the Bianchi is way more attractive then any camera could ever be. And the iPhone 6S might not be as good, it is light and as it’s used for GPS-tracking it’s also always with me. So a few more iPhone shots from the road then!
A couple more after the break:
