There is something in African music that just draws me to it. It’s highly rhythmic repetitive style just makes you wanna dance and I might not understand the vocals… if it sounds good, it sounds good, simple as that! So when I saw Tamikrest was going to play in Vera, it didn’t take long to make up my mind.
On Tuesday Amadou & Mariam -also known as ‘the blind couple from Mali‘- played at De Oosterpoort. They had their international breakthrough in 2005 with the then released album ‘Dimanche à Bamako’ and in that year they also performed at the Dutch festival Lowlands. I didn’t attend but did see some of it on TV and wished I was there. Now then that is finally possible in the smaller hall of the venue.
