Vanessa Peters in Het Huiskamercafé

It was one of those impossible-to-choose evenings again last Friday. Toby Beard in Vanslag in Borger, a new concert in the Synagog in Groningen by my friends of wishfulmusic, a gig in Vera, another gig in Groningen by Lepel Concerts and then the mention that Vanessa Peters would play a solo gig in Westerwijtwerd, a small town above Groningen. And as I’ve know Vanessa for a long time now, I quite liked the idea of going to see her, a good warmup for when she’ll be playing the Groninger Museum with The Sentimentals.

Groninger Museum Live #3

Last Saturday the third Groninger Museum Live was held, an evening of where lo-fi, fragile music is being played in a few locations in the museum. Time to find out what I missed back then.

Mattanja Joy Bradley in Camping Roodehaan

After two weeks of shooting concerts in Groningen with everything from loud Hardrock to the most quiet Lo-fi music, it was nice to end the cycle with a gorgeous singer/songwriter concert in Roodehaan. So Alex Akela’s invitation to come see him support Mattanja Joy Bradley in Warfhuizen was a very welcome one.

Agnes Obel and Yori Swart in De Stadsschouwburg

Last years release of the album Philharmonics by Agnes Obel was a huge success. Piano based songs with a fantastic voice. So I was hugely disappointed I wasn’t able to go to Eurosonic this year, although most likely the venue would have been filled to the brim anyway. I had to wait a little longer, but eventually Agnes would return and last Sunday was that time.
