Just two days after the Ruben Hoeke gig at Live op Zondag I headed to Borger again for Curtis Salgado in Vanslag. Last year Curtis and band performed at the Holland Blues Festival in Grolloo and was one of the headliners there. On the fifth of November they were at Vanslag!
Curtis is quite the legend in his own right. He played with the Robert Cray band, was lead-singer in Santana for a bit, shared the stage with B.B. King and to top it all off… he’s the inspiration behind Joh Belushi’s character of the greatest music-movie ever made: The Blues Brothers!
Curtis is backed by Alan Hagar on guitar. A fantastic duo, but for a good full soulful blues concert they also have a terrific rhythm section.
Lots and lots of work of the albums of Cutis, with special attention to the latest album that Curtis and Alan recorded as a duo and with the inclusion of some terrific covers of the great men in blues.
And though Curtis himself plays a mean bluesharp, he got Dutch blues musician Thomas Toussaint on stage to play the blues harp for a few songs.
Terrific evening with lots and lots of good vibes, gorgous blues and I can see why Curtis was such a big hit on last years festival.
