The Leif de Leeuw Band is touring honouring the Allman Brothers and brought that to Vanslag last Friday and had a bunch of young dogs as Triple Trouble opening for them.
Any lover of blues music will immediately see the connection between the band Triple Trouble and the band they took their name from: Stevie Ray Vaughan’s backing band Double Trouble. Triple Trouble came to be in 2016 and is of course drenched in strong blues rock.
Young though the band may be, the do bring loads of devotion and talent and deliver as a terrific opening act. Florian is great on guitars and when his voice matures a bit more I’m certain it will be spot on. Great band and a really good start the evening.
A short rebuild of the stage later Leif de Leeuw and band are ready to go. It’s an impressive band with no less then two drummers. Leif is on guitar, Sem Jansen on guitar and vocals, Boris Oud on bass and Tim Koning on drums make up base of the band. For this tour they also have Rick Linzel on keys, Joram Bemelmans on the second drum and Jasper Schalks on extra vocals and guitar. That’s quite a setting, but it fit’s well on the Vanslag stage.
Although the Leif de Leeuw Band is a good band on it’s own, having won several blues awards already, tonight it’s all about the Allman Brothers Band and we get two sublime sets. The combination of Leif and Sem on guitars is just seamless, especially when they play harmony (Jessica -also quite well known as the Top Gear intro- is a terrific example of that).
Bass and two drums make for a really, really good funky rhythm together with keyboards. Vocals are shared by Sem and Jasper. In the midst of it all Leif excels on guitar. A fantastic tribute to the Allman Brothers Band.
Many thanks to Vanslag and to both Triple Trouble and the Leif de Leeuw Band for a super bluesy evening!
