On a very very Good Friday I went to church. To the Vanslag church in Borger for a concert of Hans Hannemann and band.
I first saw Hans Hannemann a few years ago. He then played solo at the Melodica Festival in Groningen and I was reminded of that the moment the concert started.
At Vanslag Hans is joined by his band and that gives an overal much bigger sound that well suits his voice and songs. It makes it feel quite a bit bigger.
Actually the concert is a bit of a complete TakeRoot festival in one (TakeRoot is the annual American Music festival in Groningen). There’s great singer/songwriter songs, lots of country, a bit of western, a dash of Rock(&Roll), some jazzy songs and the feel of blues is never too far away.
Hans has a great voice for it all. As I saw that back in 2015 in Groningen, I was now again reminded of how much he -at times- sounds like Neil Diamond. The scene and feel changes again when Hans starts the second set solo behind the keyboard for a few songs that -with a whisky-glass on the keyboard- could have been played in a bar somewhere in LA.
The band is great. Fantastic rhythm section with added guitar and piano and Hans at the center of it all. Great lights and great sound only the volume was a bit high in the second set. But overall had a superb time! Thanks Hans and Vanslag!
