As a bit of an unexpected bonus and quite a surprise the TT Circuit banked a two year contract for the MXGP races. That is dirt bike races on the Circuit of Assen. That has to be something spectacular.
Only a week ago the circuit was home to the Spettacolo Sportivo Alfa Romeo event and immediately after that in one week time about 20.000 cubic meters of sand have been dumped on the asphalt circuit and a bit through the paddock to create a 1,5 kilometer long sandy track for the MXGP of Assen, that is one heck of an accomplishment that we could all se being formed through the webcams.
And as impossible as it seemed at the time: it’s there: we now have an impressive dirt-bike track for a series of events this weekend: there are various EMX classes and a VMX class, but the main events are the MX2 and the MXGP.
Thanks to my dad, who is a volunteer at the event -having helped with getting the sand in place and now in charge of keeping the sand wet and in place- I have an access pass and could not be happier :) As the races will be held on Sunday the events on Saturday were a very good chance te take a good look at the newly laid track as it has nothing in common with the regular track.
There’s a few awesome jump-hills, a bunch of exciting corners and a few more challenges for the racers. The audience can walk into the paddock where a tubed tunnel will get you underneath the track and to the merchandise-area of the paddock.
The races and qualifying looked fantastic, had lots and lots of fun today, hoever as I’m completely new to this kind of races, I also have no idea whatsoever what kind of bike belongs to what time of race and have not an iota of a clue what race or qualifying the various pictures belong too. I’ll do my best for some better decided results tomorrow.
Anyway: if you should read this before the races on Sunday and you’re still thinking what to do, do yourself a favour and come see the superb track and races on the TT Circuit of Assen!!! This simply has to become a success!
As a final addition the management of the MXGP has decided that the jumps should be more spectacular so this night the hills will rise even more. Should be fun tomorrow.
