Fujifilm Fujinon 18mm

I added the 18mm Fujinon lens by Fujifilm to my Fujifilm-gear today. My ‘missing link’ between the very wide 14mm and the 35mm.

Now the 18mm was one of the first three lenses to be released when the X-Pro1 was released. In the mean time an X-T1 and an upgrade to the X-T1 have been released (still no word on the much anticipated X-Pro2 though). And as for lenses a whole range of newer lenses has been released. But… there’s a very good reason to choose for the 18mm after all.

The 27mm ‘pancake’ lens (very flat) is a nice lens, but to close to the 35mm for my needs. Then there is a 23mm lens, built much like the 14mm. With a maximum aperture of f/1.4 it’s much faster then the f/2.0 that the 18mm has, however the 23mm lens goes for about 750 Euro (600 via Ebay). The 18mm is 450 Euro via Dutch websites and… I found it for 239 Euro on Ebay. If custom-duties were to be paid, it would still be merely 300 in total. And as luck would have it, I didn’t have to pay anything extra. So I got the lens for a grand total of 239 Euro and I’m pretty darn happy with that.

And also I’m very much surprised and indebted to FedEx for the tremendous speed of delivery as I ordered the lens on the first of January from Hong Kong and it arrived today, January 5th. That was one speedy delivery!

Next is either the Fujinon 90mm that will be released later this year or (and I’m truly hoping for that one) the Fujifilm X-Pro2. But for now I’m very happy with the new setup and the amazing speed and price of the latest addition :)
