PlatoPlanet in Oosterpoort 1/2
Last Sunday the 5th edition of PlatoPlanet was held in De Oosterpoort. PlatoPlanet is sort of a preview to Eurosonic/Noorderslag and is organised by Plato in combination with the Oosterpoort venue.
PlatoPlanet is a terrific showcase-festival with a lot of acts playing 30-minute sets, divided over two stages.
When I arrived the festival had already started and I had completely missed Dudettes and was only in time to see the last few notes of the last song by Royal Parks. Royal Parks is Diederik Nomden whom I mainly know as a terrific guitarist that helps out a lot in Awkward I. Wish I’d seen more of this gig.
On the main stage the only foreign band starts their set. Danish band The Rumour Said Fire has just released their album The Arrogand in Denmark and should do very well, they play a good set.
Back in the Foyer Marlijn and Helge or ‘Miss Molly and Me‘ start their set. It’s fantastic. A lovely duo, great songs and very catchy.
Back to the main stage for Tangarine, the twins just came back from a tour abroad and are doing very well for themselves. Their quirky humour, great vocals and a good set of folk songs has long since proven their worth. And closing with the set with a Cuby + Blizzards cover is always a good idea!
In the Foyer the band Dia Del Mercado plays a set of ‘filmic folk’ influenced by Ennio Morricone, Neil Young and Calexico. Not sure what to make of them yet.
