Instagram photography
I’m a fairly late adaptor to the hype, but it has finally gotten to me. In a big way I might add. But I love it!
I’m not sure it it’s using Instagram that got me outdoors more or getting outside that got me to use Instagram, but going to Rome on vacation last year sort of set it off I guess. Seeing the world, going places and sharing it with with others really got me to take far more notice of my surroundings and getting me to go out more. The vacations to New York and Krakow helped too, but now it can be as easily as stepping outside and going for a walk in my own town. Looking at the sky seeing the clouds drift by, looking at buildings I never noticed before, hoping to see beautiful vintage cars, looking at art… It really feels as though my eyes have only just been opened for real!
And why would you take photos with a two year old 5 megapixel smartphone camera when you have two Canon DSLR’s with a range of lenses and a gorgeous Fuji digital 35mm camera? The answer is boringly simple but it’s just like all the photographers say: the best camera is the one you have on you. And carrying all that Canon gear around with me really isn’t that much fun. Not all the time at least. And the advantage of the smartphone camera is huge. You take a shot, it’s edited immediately on the phone and sent online. All in a matter of minutes. Instant gratification. And of course in some cases it’s good to know you can come back with a better camera to take the shot ‘for real’, but that’s not always the case.
Now why do I like Instagram so much? It’s a bit like Twitter. Using hashtags you can browse through sets and series of photos, check out other users’ galleries and get inspiration right from there. And once you’re in a circle of people, it’s a lot of fun checking out their updates. Even though you have no idea who they are. It’s the love for certain subjects that brings you together. Right now, I’m sharing the vinyl records I play, clouds I see, art I’m checking out, beautifully designed vintage cars and architecture. And like I said: it’s opening my eyes, I really feel I’m taking far more notice of my surroundings, really seeing what’s out there and I do so much love it.
I’ve uploaded a bunch of photos to my Flickr account, but if you’re on Instagram and would like to check me out there, please don’t be shy and look me up and say Hello. Like this site, I’m known as KJGuch on Instagram too.
