Kim Janssen and Rue Royale in Vera
Friday -almost a week after the Rhythm&Blues festival- I’m well rested and it’s hight time to check out music again and with Kim Janssen and Rue Royale in Vera I’m in for an evening of absolute gorgeous music.
Kim Janssen and Rue Royale have been on tour together and will end this tour in Groningen this evening. One last evening to give it their all. They both play with full bands and also both appear in each others bands. Starting tonight is Kim Janssen in various setups. Alone or with his sister Phyllis Janssen, a pop like band setup with the addition of bass and drums and songs with brass and cello. Kim sounds great but the duets with his sisters are the songs that truly stand out. What a wonderful first gig.

In the break I catch up with fellow photographer Marij and before I know it, Rue Royale is on stage. The second part of an evening with incredibly beautiful fragile lo-fi music. Brookln joined Kim Janssen on stage for a few songs and Kim returns the favour by playing guitar and keyboard on a bunch of songs of the Rue Royale gig. Concerts like this demand a more attentive audience and luckily we have that. The band truly shines tonight and Brookln and Ruth make a wonderful couple.
