Rhythm & Blues Night 2012 3/4

Admiring your heroes when you ought to be working is punished immediately, so once I left Eric Sardinas for the ‘Grote Zaal’ to see Jimmie Vaughan, the place was nearly full. Getting half a decent spot for photos is a hassle.

This was especially hard as, for some reason or other, the lights in the biggest hall are always very dim at this festival (just like the Take Root festival). The hall has all the potential in the world, but for some reason it’s always a struggle at the RnBNight. But you make do with what you get.

Jimmie Vaughan is of course well known for his part in The Fabulous Thunderbirds, but I fear he’ll be best knows as ‘Stevie Ray’s big brother’. And good as Jimmie may be, he’s no Stevie. The show was decent, had a bit of Tex Mex Texan blues, lots of Rhythm&Blues but after Eric Sardinas it just didn’t swing as much.

So this was a good time to check out a French addition to the festival; the Shaggy Dogs. With most of the audience checking out Jimmie Vaughan, there was more room in the Entreehal and that meant people could dance to the music. Nice atmosphere and a hard working band on stage.

I made sure I was in the ‘Binnenzaal’ in time to find myself a spot front stage for the Dana Fuchs Band. Blues, rock, a lot of funk and a damn powerful voice. Dana rocked!

I really wanted to see the band from my hometown but on my way to see Tangerine I made a quick stop to check out The Sadies from Canada.
