The Ploctones in De Oosterpoort

The Ploctones is a band that I really wanted to see for a long time, but for one reason or another I seem to constantly miss them No chance of that last Friday though! Planned well in advance and heading out in time not to miss any of this gig.

Entering the venue, the band had set up in front of the stage, I love that setting. The light was set up very good as well, was not expecting any problems there then.

The Ploctones is a Jazz-band consisting of Anton Goudsmit on guitar, Jeroen Vierdag on bass, Efraïm Trujillo on saxophone and Martijn Vink on drums. Anton is probably best known for his part in New Cool Collective. Efraïm I also know from his work in the big band outfit of New Cool Collective. Jeroen Vierdag en Martijn Vink were new names for me.

The gig was -in a word- awesome! It’s not the least surprising that Anton Goudsmit is considered on of the best Dutch guitar-players of the moment, his work is simply incredible. Inspiring to watch and without an excess of effects. It was also fantastic to see Efraïm’s work. His every move to get the right sounds from his toes all the way to the saxophone was brilliant to behold.

Jeroen on bass guitar and double bass and Martijn Vink on drums made a fantastic rhythm section, feeling the correct way Anton and Efraïm were going and playing some superb solos themselves. Never too much and simply hitting the spot.

Fantastic gig and I’m extremely happy to have finally seen the band that even exceeded my expectations.
