Smoke

As it’s quiet on the concert-side of photography, it’s a nice time to try my luck in other areas of photography. And as the weather has been pretty much awful the last few weeks (or I had other things to do), I decided to try some smoke photography.

The setup is pretty easy. Darken room, burn incense (the safest thing to burn without your house going up in flames too) add light to lighten up the smoke and shoot away. Flap your arms or breath a bit heavily every once in a while to affect the way the smoke behaves and you’re well under way. As a first try I’m fairly happy with the results and it has given me some ideas to improve for the next time.

The workflow was pretty easy too. The photos were shot with a black background, inverted and colourised. Hence the coloured smoke to a white backdrop.  I’ll try this again sometime once I get a better setup to shoot and take a bit more time for the whole process. For now, these were the first results
