Liptease, Aynsley Lister and John Mayall @ Ribs&Blues 2/2

After a great afternoon with some fantastic blues music, Ribs&Blues headed into the evening for some more blues.

Starting of with a very fine rockabilly band: Liptease and the Backstreet Crackbacks. Greasy hair, big double bass, phat guitar and sexy singers on stage. Now how can you say no the that? It was a great show, modern day pop and rock songs set to rock&roll music. Opening the set with Queen of the Stone Age’s Nobody Knows and it took me ages to recognise Nirvana’s Teen Spirit. Lots of fun and really good music!

As I had to take a break to eat and relax a bit, I missed most of the Cuban Heels show on the main stage. Watched them from the field and enjoyed it a lot, but no photos I’m afraid.

Also I wanted to be at the sidestage to see Aynsley Lister. It’s been a while since I last saw him. Actually the whole backingband has changes since the last time. But I sill love the music. Even more so now, to be honest. The band seems and sounds very solid and Aynsley’s sound has matured. Damn tight bluesrock like it’s supposed to sound! Was great to see and hear him again, been way, way too long.

I was however unfortunately not able to see the whole show, the last act on the main stage (for me anyway) was one I had to have a good spot for and as the man is a legend and the one and only Godfather of British Blues I expected a huge crowd at the main stage. Luckily I was able to secure a good spot fairly close to the stage, but not too close (the stage was very high and I had no need to shoot straight up). John Mayall and band played yet another fantastic performance. The man simply can’t stop, you just won’t believe he’s 77 when you see him on stage. Having seen the whole gig at Groeten uit Grolloo the day before, I now took the time to take the images I wanted and with the stage setup like it was in Grolloo I was easily able to get my shots.

Ribs&Blues 2011 was amazing. I haven’s seen all bands on Sunday and not a single one on Monday, but the list of names is huge, the quality is high and the atmosphere is incredible. So thank you Raalte for a fantastic festival!
