Ben Prestage, 24 Pesos, Woody & Paul and Henrik Freischlader @ Ribs&Blues 1/2

After two days of watching bands perform at the Groeten uit Grolloo festival, I just had to to to Ribs&Blues in Raalte to shoot some blues artists. And with John Amor and Aynsley Lister there was more then enough reason to go. The sun was shining, heat up the barbecue and get those bands playing, I’m on my way to Raalte!

Upon arriving at Ribs&Blues was a huge noise coming from the sidestage. Having missed it at the Groeten uit Grolloo festival one-man-bluesmachine Ben Prestage was a sight to see, behind a drumkit, a mouthharp-holder and a huge bushy beard is a regular blues-wonder. Like being chased by the devil, he sang a fantastic set of swampy blues. What a way to start the festival.

On the main stage London based bluesband 24 Pesos was rocking it out to a huge audience. A mixture of Bluesrock, soul and funk. Sounded sweet. Fantastic keyboard player by the way :)

But the weather was nice outside and I was curious to find out about a Dutch band by the name of Woody & Paul. I really couldn’t make anything out of the name, but boy was I in for a surprise. I love it when I find a band that totally rocks and Woody & Paul did. Old traditional blues, blues with a touch of country and modern rocking blues, they play it all and it sounds fantastic. Also love to see a Bass player grooving on stage and such an expressive drummer. If you  have the change: check them out!

Back on the main stage a first for Ribs&Blues: a German bluesband. Are there any German blueshero’s? Henrik Freischlader is on his way becoming one. Popular in Germany (that has much more appreciation for blues than the Netherlands anyway) and working on an international career. Great funky set.
