Dotan, Royal Republic, Krystl and Tony Ebben @ Dauwpop 1/4
Ascension Day (a national Dutch holiday) holds two fine traditions. The first being Dew Treading; getting up at 5 past silly in the morning to sing and dance barefoot in the (dew holding) grass. This tradition has been around since the 5th century but is not as widely celebrated these days as it once was (who in his right mind gets up at 4 in the morning on a free day?). The other tradition is not yet as old -it started in 1995- but also involves singing and dancing. The hours the Dauwpop festival is keeping however are by far better.
Dauwpop starts around half past eleven. On the “Enge Bos” stage (the Scary Forest Stage) Dutch singer Dotan and band kick of the festival on a very bright and sunny day. The audience still has to get into the festival-mood, but all in all this a pretty nice relaxed way to start the day.
I manage to get into the tent containing the Surprise Stage where the Swedish hard rockers of Royal Republic do a good job pulling in the rock lovers. It’s a fun show, good portion of rock and fantastic light. It knocked the last bit of sleep out of any one not being fully awake just yet
Dutch singer Krystl opens the Main Stage just before the afternoon starts. A very cheerful and andearing girl, easily able to grab the audience’s attention.Playing the recently released and very summer-friendly hits help out a lot too, a very lovely set.
However, I couldn’t watch her whole set as the “Enge Bos” stage was set for the next gig: Tony Ebben & The Small Town Villains. A good portion of Country rock and Folk rock to get the afternoon started with a blast. Would make a fantastic Dutch addition to the Take Root festival later this year I’d say.
