Dazzled Kid, Jacqueline Govaert, A Silent Express and Levellers @ Dauwpop 2/4
As the afternoon started of, the festival terrain started to fill. The weather was still fantastic and the Dauwpop festival was well under-way. Bring on the second batch of bands!
After I shot the photos at Tony Ebben’s gig and watched a bit there, I again made my way tot he Surprise Stage to see a bit of Tjeerd Bomhof’s new project Dazzled Kid (in his spare time Tjeerd also writes and produces for a variety of other Dutch artists). Said to be more accessible then his regular work with band Voict, popular on the radio and with a large audience, Dazzled Kid certainly did well here. Filling out the set with humour, a few long stretched covers and a great band on stage, I loved it.
However, as it is with festivals, the next band on the Main Stage was eagerly awaiting my arrival, so I had to run to make it in time there. Actually I missed the first song filling up my caffeine supply in a much needed coffee break. Jacquelline Govaert -mostly still known as the lead singer of Dutch band Krezip- has a new band, performs under her own name and though there are subtle differences it still sounds a lot like Krezip (then again, Jacqueline was the voice of…). Good show, but not really my cup of tea.
So it was good that back at the “Enge Bos” stage yet another Dutch band was about to kick off. Hailing from the northern provinces of the Netherlands A Silent Express bring a mix of Indie, Alternative Rock and 80s New Wave and they started the gig with -I kid you not- Crocket’s Theme by Jan Hammer. Absolutely brilliant and setting the mood for the rest of the gig. Really really nice and I felt very bad to have to leave them during the set, but I did have to to catch the last bit of the next band.
I’ve only seen the folk rockers of the Levellers once and back then I wasn’t really prepared for what I was about to see. Now I was and as I wasn’t on photo assignment there, I could just watch if roll on for a bit. Of course I did take a few shots, but mainly I just enjoyed the gig for what it was: fantastic!
