Fuji FinePix X100
I’m fully aware that I have a bit of a camera fetish. I have way more camera’s then I’ll ever need, but hey… it’s just so much fun
The ultimate camera I’d like to get would be a rangefinder camera. To be precise a Leica, but as that’s way over my budget, that will have to wait for a while. Fuji presented a novel idea on last years Photokina photography trade fair: the X100, a vintage styled compact camera with a hybrid viewfinder. I wanted it the moment I saw it.
The problem was, I wasn’t alone in that wish. The camera is one of the most sought after camera’s in a long while. To some degree it is to photography what Apples iPad was to laptops (at least, that’s how I look at it). The release of the camera was delayed and then delayed again. Japan’s tsunami again messed up Fuji’s plans but after months and months of anticipation, the camera finally became aavailable in the Netherlands last week. I mailed a bunch of camera stores to find out about the waiting list and it appeared that every store had huge lists. But since my mind was made up already I decided to put myself on one of the lists anyway. Ordered it last week Wednesday.
So to much of my surprise I got an email last Friday: your order is being shipped. YES!!! got up extra early on Saturday and kept an eye out on a delivery van all morning. Could hardly contain myself when it stopped and even if I wanted to make an ‘unboxing-video’, I wouldn’t be able to. I ripped it all open to find me very own Fuji FinePix X100:
This actually is mine! The hybrid viewfinder is amazing. Looking through an optical viewfinder and with an overlayed image giving information about framing, horizontal levelling, histogram, metering is just fantastic. the weather however wasn’t so during the weekend I didn’t really get to take of lot of photos other then the livingroom, the garden and myself, Nothing worth posting
Last night however the weather was just incredible. Lots of sun and very bright. As I had some testing to do with my Hasselblad camera, I took the Fuji with me to do some real test shooting with that too. Had a great three hour walk, took some images showing me the various differences in settings (but not very much interesting to post) and a few image that I liked enough to post anyway, so here’s a small set of photos taken with my beautiful, brand new Fuji FinePix X100:
I’m very happy with the camera. It’s light, not very noticeable (although I did get into conversations with a few people who admired my “old camera” already) and is a joy to work with. Will make a fantastic addition to the camera-gear for my vacation in a few weeks.
