Cross-Linx Groningen: Victoire, The National 3/3

Victoire surely had the worst slot of the evening to perform. Initially at the same time as The National. Even starting the show half an hour earlier didn’t really help secure the audience they deserved. Setup took a bit longer so they started 15 minutes later than planned and after one song (or earlier even) people left to secure a spot at the gig of The National that was about to start. And Victoire deserved better than that, much better.

I too had to leave after two and a half song as I had to shoot some photos of The National too of course, but I really, really liked the bit I heard. I do hope Victoire will return sometime and I’ll absolutely come and see them.

Shots from above were a nice experiment and worked well I thought, also with the band being positioned like that

But was The National really worth all the attention, the packed venue? In a word: YES! The show was huge, grand, intensive, impressive and above all very well performed. The only objection was that it was a tad loud. But the use of video cameras was nothing short of impressive and made -in combination with lots of light- for a visually stunning show. It was also very great to see (safely from the back) singer Matt Berninger work his way through the audience to the soundboard to sing to the band from way back. Brilliant show
