Platosonic – Laura Jansen, The Bear That Wasn’t and Lara Runars

Although my part in Eurosonic 2011 ended after Wednesday-night I did go to the Platosonic event with the guys of FileUnder. PlatoSonic is a small but great event organised by recordstore Plato in conjunction with neighbouring coffeehouse Coffee Company. The Coffee Company had the quiet and acoustic acts, Plato the electrified full-rocking bands.

We started out in the Coffee Company where Laura Jansen played. As FileUnder wrote: “Friday afternoon 13:50, Coffee Company, Cappuccino and Laura Jansen, a divine combination” and he couldn’t be more right. Laura must be the cheeriest artist I ever saw and how can you not fall for her charms? Her band was sitting in the back, enjoying an afternoon off, but Laura got them involved anyway, singing the backing vocals to some songs. The gigs at Platosonic are short, only 20 tot 25 minutes per artist, not nearly long enough, but I was happy to have seen Laura again

A short while later the next act was on: The Bear That Wasn’t. One guy, one guitar and some lovely singer-songwriter songs. Will have to check him again if I get the oppertunity, today was a bit too short to form a real opinion

The last act I saw in the Coffee Company was Lara Runars: Icelandic alternative indie-pop. She’s flanked by a drummer and guitarist and plays an energetic and fun set with lots of hand-clapping. Also one to watch again if she ever comes around here again
